A meshwork of the Tauren face |
Today, Steve Aguilar, lead animator for the World of Warcraft animation team revealed the process of remodeling the Tauren male character. A constant with these recent reveals are the statements 'retaining the essence of the original'.Take a peek at what they have accomplished thus far for the Tauren male and decide for yourself if Blizzard is keeping the look of our beloved characters.
Meet the New:

A revamp of the old to new mesh |
One of the things I noticed outright is that apart from a few nodes in the tail(most likely for even more movement) there wasn't much work done there at all. I suppose one doesn't need to revamp the awkward bulky shape of the bull's tail.

Tauren Emotes New:
|
The laughing emote seems really jovial doesn't it? |
|
The 'point' emote is spot on! |
Right off the bat one can definitely see how much work the artists have put into the facial features. The '
laughing' and '
point' emote really hit home. They seem perfectly suited to the emotion. The '
yell' emote however seems too much like he's trying to show you how much teeth he has in his jaw. The '
shy' emote also seems to fall short of its emotion. Rather then being timid it seems he's saying to us, '
Oops, my bad!'
Wrap it Up:
Overall I have to say that the new Tauren Male character is looking pretty sleek with some great facial expressions at his disposal. I would have liked to see more work done on his tail and hooves but if the artists felt there was nothing to fix there it can't be helped. Hopefully a reveal of the Tauren Female will be shown to us very soon!
