Basic economics: Buy low, sell high!
1.) Go to any auction hall in the game.
2.) Browse all the categories. You are looking for individual items that have one or two pages in the auction. The less items that are for sale the better your chances.
3.) Look for individual listings that are significantly cheaper (20% or more) than the other listings for that item.
4.) Buy the item. Turn around and re-list it on the auction for a few silver less than the other listings.
When players look for these items they will choose the cheaper listings. This way you can make anywhere from a few silver to a couple gold. As you gain more gold, you can make bigger purchases and apply the same concept. Another way to make money is to auction everything in your bags. I try not to vendor anything I don't have to. You'd be surprised how many people need your trash.
