Gold Guide: Utilizing the Undermine Journal
Who in the auction business hasn't seen this site being promoted? Just in case, here is a link to the website. What is it? A simple website that details seller trends, price look-up for items, what a competitor is selling and at what time, as well as item trends. Currently only a handful of servers are up but a visitor can vote to have their server on the site via poll. I suppose one can think of it as Wowhead, Auctioneer, and Warcraft Offline AH rolled into one snazzy package.
Now if you are alike most goblins and stock piling mats in preparation for Cataclysm a thought of , "What exactly do I keep," may come to mind. Specifically, common sense will make you gold come the new EP.
Stock your bank tabs with frostweave, adder's tongue, leather, and titanium ore. If you are alike me, you will also have an additional banks for the classic mats such as netherweave, mithril, silver, and thick leather. Sure, this is a bit obvious but I did mention that common sense will garner the gold. Essentially what we are doing is preparing for all the people that wish to grind their professions from 450+ right down to those that are starting new toons and with them; new professions. These same people will be willing to pay the price of our mats because they are too focused on either a server first on a goblin/worgen or a steamroller that wants to be 85 and fast!
As for those that wish to farm their own mats a good example to remember is when WotLK first opened its doors. The leveling field was completely saturated with players either attempting to farm their own mats(in which case frustration will kick in because the area will be flooded with others doing the same) or others attempting to finish the quests firsthand. I do not see this fact changing with Cataclysm. History will repeat itself. The frustration of not being able to gather their own mats will bring the eager flock of buyers straight to the AH and their gold right into our hands.
As such, inflate the prices for your mats for the first week. Sell the mats as if they are the only items available. In some cases they very well may be. Should an eager seller attempt to undercut your prices the key is to simply buy them out. Re-list at your inflated price. Profit.
